MEMORIALS IN GERMANY
Germany doesn't hide its troubled past. The former camps are there
for all to see. I first visited Belsen around 1970 and I revisited in 2008.
Buchenwald is also accessible from Potsdam and I went there in 2009.
The visits are not any easy experience but are, perhaps something
that everyone should undertake at least once.

"lest we forget"
... old views and new views - only the trees have grown in the place
where no birds fly.
The German poet, Goethe, had a favourite oak tree under which he
used to relax, meditate and compose. With staggering cynicism, the
concentration camp at Buchenwald was built around this oasis of
peace and creativity.
If you are ever in this part of Germany and wish to visit either of these camps, then I am happy to take
you there.
