Ask yourself, "Why am I seeing and feeling this? How am I growing? What am I
learning?" Remember: Every coincidence is potentially meaningful. How high
your awareness level is determines how much meaning you get from your world.
Photography can teach you to improve your awareness level.  -

WAY BEYOND THE ORDINARY
"Every now and then I am reminded of how important photography can
be. Without your collection of images I would probably have never
known such things existed. Viewing them had my mind stand still after
attempting to imagine the stories behind the memorials.
Thank you for the education". -

This is a quote from a fellow-photographer. I posted a few images from
my project "
The 99 Names" on a forum and he took the trouble to write.

There are many, many photographic holidays available. I'm sure that
they all give excellent value for money and provide an enjoyable
holiday experience but ....

I can offer you much more - a chance to see and photograph places
where some of the defining events of the 20th century took place:

The room where "the final solution" was agreed upon, the
platform from which the journey to a concentration camp started,
the camps themselves.

The Reichstag where the madness of WW2 in Europe started &
finished, the rooms where "the Potsdam Conference" (which
decided the future of post war Europe) was held, the Luftwaffe
Museum.

The bridge where the cold-war spies were exchanged as the
madness continued.

So, if you have an interest in photography,

do something different, something way beyond the ordinary
A few other things that you will not find on even the best "themed" package holiday.

My wife, Gosha, is an internationally exhibited & collected artist. We live in a beautiful, historic building right in the heart of
Potsdam where we have a working studio & gallery. This is a unique opportunity to spend time in the company of a
consummate, professional artist in her studio.

Gosha has all the paraphernalia that goes with being a painter, printmaker and ceramist. She also has amazing perception.
Most of the aesthetics of photography, composition, lighting, colour, balance, preparing for exhibitions, I have learned from
her. You can learn a lot too, by just being here, observing, listening... and who knows? you might arrive as a photographer
and leave with a burning passion for painting or ceramics.

I have extensive photographic kit, an Epson 3800 printer, computer equipment, photoshop, Qimage, profiling gear and
"always on" wireless broadband. Hopefully you will take with you not only memories and motivation, but a beautiful
"big one" - an A2 print of your best shot!
I can't offer unlimited printing due to the cost, but you will certainly print enough to see the benefit of buying an A2 rather
than an A3 machine!

If you are just a few steps behind me on the journey to "the perfect photograph" then maybe I can teach you a little about
colour management, profiling, printing etc?

If you are just starting out on your journey then you can learn how to take the next steps, at your own pace and on a one-
to-one basis when feasible. Perhaps white balance or exposure are a problem - if so then I will show you the three most
useful photographs that you will ever take. Or maybe you would like to learn how to hand-cut an aperture mount and frame
a print for exhibition? Any tuition & advice that either Gosha or I can provide is included, as are the necessary materials
such as mounting board, printing paper - painting materials too, if art suddenly takes your fancy.

Also, I will transfer you from & to the airport and take you by car to whichever of the sights you wish to photograph, except
those in the centre of Berlin. For those we will go by public transport, the cost of which is included in the price.

A visit to one of the camps, either
Bergen-Belsen or Buchenwald, is also included and is a full day trip by car, with a packed
lunch provided.

Of course, you are free to do your own thing whenever you wish. For a couple where only one person has an interest in
photography,  this is an ideal opportunity for one to indulge themselves with a camera, whilst the other soaks up the
atmosphere in Gosha's studio. Or just chills out in the garden with one of our hundreds of books.
The fabulous baroque palaces, the gardens and waterways, the flora & fauna of Potsdam, are all just a short walk away.
In the warmer months, the city has a very Mediterranean air to it, with pavement cafés, firework displays, open-air concerts
etc.

Please bear in mind that we are not an hotel. You would stay "en famile" with us, in our comfortable guest room with a
double studio couch. Thus, we can only accommodate either a single person or a couple who are happy to share.
If you prefer the anonymity of an hotel or pension, or if you are travelling with a group, then I am happy to assist you in
choosing & booking a place nearby and would reduce my price by €25 per person per night.

You would share a continental-style breakfast with us, in the garden if the weather is kind; there is always tea or coffee
available with, perhaps, Gosha's home-made bread or cakes. In the evening there are dozens of restaurants & cafés in the
area, ranging from a first-class French restaurant where the likes of Mick Jagger, Tom Cruise and Wolfgang Joop have
dined, to simple noodle bars. Or for a small extra charge you are welcome to share whatever we are having. This could be
a banquet or nothing very much - remember this is an artists' house - sometimes we forget to eat!

We also host regular evening cultural events in the gallery so, during your stay, you might be lucky enough to see one of
Germany's top sitar players, listen to new writers & musicians performing, or hear "Tales from The Silk Road".
Details of this year's events are on Gosha's web-site -
www.studiogosha.com - then click on the link "What's New".

So, you can arrive and leave on whatever day you wish and stay for as few or as many days as you wish. The summers
can be very settled and warm but the winters are hard. The best time to visit is, probably, 1st May to mid October but we
can consider other times of the year as well.

If you stay with us the cost is €135 per night for a single, €195 per night for a couple. This includes your airport transfer,
b&b, my services as chauffeur & guide, computer and internet use, tuition in photography/profiling/ printing, as required,
and at least one "perfect" A2 print with a tube to carry it home in.

When you have returned home, Gosha and I are happy to provide continuing technical advice and support, by e-mail or
telephone. We want you to enjoy your holiday with us; we want you to come back to Potsdam; we want you to achieve your
goals in photography or art;
